DEPARTMENT PROFILE
The Jakeland Fire Dept. is the busiest fire department in the Lego Fire Community. The brave men and women of the Jakeland Fire Dept. answer an average of 40,000 calls a year in a response area of 32 square miles. This includes 2 hospitals and 1 trauma center, 2 large covered shopping malls, 1 football stadium, 1 convention center, 2 colleges, 1 central rail station that utilizes 5 railroad lines, 5 major highways, several residential and commercial high rises, and the Hackensack River on the east side of the city. Each firehouse roughly covers a 2 square mile response area. There are 12 fire stations placed throughout the City of Jakeland. Fire Headquarters is located at 1516 Downtown Blvd, however the new communications center, tour commanders post, and the chief and assistant chiefs offices have been moved to "Grand Central" at 1183 Eagle Ave. The Jakeland Fire Dept. consists of 10 engine companies, 5 ladder companies, 2 squad companies and 1 rescue company which are manned 24/7. A reserve engine, ladder and the USAR are manned only when necessary. Jakelands bravest also are often requested to respond to mutual aid to surrounding communities in the Lego Metro Fire District. Seventy two brave men and women assigned to Squad 3, Squad 10 and Rescue 1, are part of the Special Emergency Assistance Rescue (SPEAR) Team 5. SPEAR Team 5 specializes in areas of rescue needed for building collapses, hazardous materials, water rescues, and any other incident that needs special training and equipment. The Jakeland Fire Dept. in the past and the present have successfully answered the alarms protecting the City of Jakeland since November 16, 1983, and will continue to serve into the future.

Golden Axe and Golden Hydrant Awards
Every year the Jakeland Fire Dept. hands out two awards to the busiest Engine Company and Ladder Company in the city. However, it is not to honor the companies who had the most calls. It is to honor the companies who operated at the most working incidents when assigned on the first alarm. Listed below are the companies who were honored from 1983 to the present. Some you will notice are no longer active companies. But their dedication to service can never be forgotten.
