138 Park Ave "Pride of Cliffside!"
The firehouse at 138 Park Ave in Cliffside was constructed in 1987. This firehouse was constructed during the third phase of the expansion of the Jakeland Fire Dept as more fire companies were needed in the busier sections of the city during the "war years".
"The Fighting Leprechauns!"
Engine 9 is housed here at 138 Park Ave and is known as "The Fighting Leprechauns!". This nickname stuck because the Cliffside section of Jakeland is a predominantly Irish neighborhood. To show off their Irish pride Engine 9 decorated their rig with green and orange striping and shamrocks. "The Fighting Leprechauns" have seen action all over the city. The most famous incidents they have seen in their district are the Petersen Industrial Fire (5 Alarms, 3/24/1988), the Rochelle Ave Fire (5 Alarms, 7/29/2007) and the Saznari Medical Plaza Fire (12/17/2015, 2 fatalities).
Engine Company 9 "Fresh from the Fight!"
Engine Company 9 was established on November 16, 1988. They currently operate a 2012 Seagrave. This is Engine Company 9's third engine. Engine 9 is equipped with a 1,750 GPM pump and a 750 gallon tank. The equipment that Engine 9 carries on board is the standard engine company equipment (axes, halligans, flashlights, nozzles, etc). Engine 9 was the busiest engine in the city in 1990, 1994, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015. They are currently the busiest engine company in the history of the Jakeland Fire Dept. Their company motto is "Fresh from the fight!" because they are one of the busiest engines in the city. So when they arrive at a incident, they are always fresh from the previous incident.
