12/24/11 XMAS EVE FIRE RAGES ON PORTER AVE
At 9:46, Jakelands Bravest were dispatched to 333 Porter Ave for a basement fire. When firefighters from Engine 6 and Truck 2 arrived on scene, they discovered heavy fire on the first floor. Hose lines were quickly stretched into the structure and an aggressive attack was made. However, A second alarm was requested as the flames raged out of control and spread to 335 Porter Ave. As firefighters inside 333 Porter Ave attempted to bring the flames under control, fire spread up the walls of the structure and all three floors were quickly engulfed in flames. All firefighters were then pulled out of the building and began attacking the fire from the exterior. Flames eventually broke through the roof and a tower ladder was needed to hit the flames from the air. Firefighters from Lego Twp, Rochelle Heights and Portage were requested to stand by in empty firehouses. A rehab unit from Legocreek was dispatched to the scene due to the freezing temperatures the firefighters faced while fighting the fire. After four hours, the fire was finally brought under control and knocked down.
11/29/11 JAKELANDS BRAVEST KEPT BUSY
Multiple incidents in the City of Jakeland kept firefighters busy from Jakeland and surrounding cities. The first incident rang out around 08:54 at 55 Burnside Ave for a house fire. When firefighters first arrived on scene, they found the home heavily involved in fire and a next door residence also involved in fire. Crews quickly sprung into action and made an aggressive attack on the fire involving both homes. 55 Burnside Ave was unfortunately a total loss, however 59 Burnside Ave was saved from becoming fully involved. Firefighters from St Lego were called to the scene to assist.
While the Burnside Ave fire was ongoing, units in Jakeland Heights were called to Golden Acres nursing home for a CO alarm with multiple patients feeling sick. When firefighters arrived and began their investigation, they discovered dangerously high readings coming from the furnace room. EMS units from both Jakeland University Medical Center and St Matthews Hospital treated and transported multiple patients. EMS from multiple mutual aid agencies also assisted with evacuating the nursing home and transporting the patients to other nursing home facilities. All mutual aid that assisted Jakeland was Buena Vista, Rochelle Heights, Lego Twp, North Lereado, South Palm and St Lego.

10/11/11 2 ALARM TENAFLY RD HOUSE FIRE
Just before midnight, firefighters in Jakeland were dispatched to 14 Tenafly Rd on a reported house fire by a motorist. When firefighters from Engine 7 and Truck 4 arrived first, they discovered the two and a half story well involved with fire on all floors and through the roof. Multiple hoses were put into operation to douse the flames from the exterior, and Truck 4's tower went to work. No exposure structures were in danger. The occupants of the house were away on vacation at the time of this incident. The fire was held at a 2nd alarm and it took about 37 minutes to bring the fire under control. All units that operated at the scene were Engines 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 15, Ladder 3, Trucks 2 and 4, Squad 10, Rescue 1 and Battalions 1 and 2.
8/28 - 30/11 HURRICANE IRENE
Jakelands Bravest were kept busy before, during and after the hurricane struck the city. Before the storm, firefighters were kept busy preparing the multiple rescue boats throughout the city and filling sand bags. During the storm, multiple victims were trapped in vehicles due to flash flooding, while others were trapped in elevators due to power outages. Residents who live close to the water had to be evacuated due to flooding. Some residents who were stubborn, were eventually evacuated after the storm via boats. This storm also caused many structure fires throughout the city. The pictured incident here occurred on 8/30/11. This fire a unattended candle that was being used because of the power outage. When Squad 10 arrived first on scene, they discovered that the fire had already consumed the top floor of 555 Union St and flames were through the roof. Also the fire had extended into the top floor of 553 Union St. The fire required a 2nd alarm and took 2 and a half hours to bring under control. Mutual aid from Lego Twp, St Lego, North Lereado County, South Palm and Rochelle Heights were needed to stand by due to Jakelands Bravest operating at multiple incidents across the city.
7/27/11 LADDER 3 RESCUES ONE AT CLINTON FIRE
Firefighters from Downtown Jakeland were dispatched to Clinton Ave on a report of a working apartment fire with a person trapped. Upon arrival of Engine 5 and Ladder 3, fire was visible venting out the front second and third floor windows of the apartment complex. Members of Engine 5 began stretching a line to the second floor from the fire escape while Ladder 3 started a search of the second floor. As soon as Engine 1 and Truck 1 arrived, Engine 1 stretched a line up the fire escape to the third floor, while Truck 1 began a search of the third floor. Battalion Chief Edwards requested a second alarm when he arrived, however the fire was quickly knocked down as soon as the lines were charged and the main bodies of fire could be located. Ladder 3 also quickly located the victim and brought her down to safety. The fire was knocked down within 15 minutes of being dispatched. All units that operated at the scene were Engines 1, 5, 6, 9, 12, 15, Ladder 3, Truck 1, Squad 3 and Rescue 1.
6/14/11 HIGH ST FIRE RINGS IN 3 ALARMS
At around 16:30, a off duty Lego Twp firefighter discovered a column of smoke in Jakeland while he was driving. As he attempted to locate the source, he discovered that there was a fire raging out of control on High St with two houses already fully involved and a third with smoke showing. Upon arrival of Jakelands bravest, a second alarm was struck bringing in another 2 engines and 1 ladder to the scene. Eventually, due to the high heat, a third alarm was struck to swap manpower out. Mutual aid from Lego Twp Rescue 1 covered the city from Eagle Ave. The fire is currently under investigation.
5/6/11 BANK FIRE RINGS IN 3 ALARMS
Exactly a month after the fatal fire that killed one of Jakelands Bravest, firefighters were called again to battle a stubborn fire at the Bank of Hackensack. When firefighters first arrived on scene they found heavy fire venting out all of the front windows and doors of the bank. An exterior attack was made using master streams from Truck 1's tower, Squad 3's ladder and multiple hoses. After a hard fought battle, fire finally darkened down and crews were able to mop up and extinguish hot spots. All units that operated at the scene were Engines 1, 4, 5, 6, 9, 12, 15, Truck 1, Truck 2, Ladder 3, Truck 4, Squad 3 and Rescue 1.
4/6/11 JLFD LODD AT GENERAL ALARM PUB FIRE
Firefighter Jason M. Smith of Truck Co. 2 made the supreme sacrifice while searching the third floor of the Jakeland Clipper Public House at 85 Coal St. The fire grew into a General Alarm assignment and M/A from Rochelle Heights, Lego Twp, St Lego, Buildington, Buena Vista, New Brickington, South Palm, Midlego, North Lereado, Bergen Heights, Legocreek and Paradise City were called in to cover the city and to the scene. Firefighters fought the blaze into the early morning as hot spots inside the structure continued to burn. Once all visible hot spots were extinguished, and the Jakeland Building Dept. declared the structure safe, crews from Truck 2 and Rescue 1 were able to remove Firefighter Jason M. Smith from the structure. Viewing will be at Porco Memorial Home, 156 Bergenfield Ave, Jakeland, NJ on 4/9/11. Church services will be held at St Marks in Lego Twp. The burial will be a private event for family, friends and the Jakeland Fire Dept.
3/2/11 FATAL JAKELAND COLLEGE BLAZE
At around 01:20 on 3/2/11, a student at Jakeland College called 9-1-1 reporting a fire with students trapped at 18 Pangborn Ave. When firefighters arrived on scene, heavy smoke and fire was visible on the first and second floors of the structure. Engine 2 immediately began an aggressive interior attack on the first floor. Ladder 7 attempted to search the second floor, however due to heavy fire conditions, they were unable to search a majority of the second floor. A second alarm was struck upon arrival of Battalion 2, and a 3rd alarm was sent to stage at the Bulldog Firehouse. Eventually all 3rd alarm units were brought to the scene due to the fire extending to an exposure building. Mutual Aide from Lego Twp, Buildington, St Lego, Legocreek and Buena Vista were called in to stand by and to the scene for relief. The cause of the fire was careless smoking. One student was killed on the second floor.
