2017 IN REVIEW
In 2017, the Jakeland Fire Dept. responded to a total of 26,138 runs. There were 211 working fires. Of the 211 fires, 73 were structure fires. Of the 73, 47 were held to an All Hands assignment. There were 14 2nd Alarm jobs, 10 3rd Alam jobs and 1 4th Alarm job and 1 General Alarm job.
The busiest Engine in 2017 was Engine 4 with 2,623 runs.
The busiest Ladder in 2017 was Tower Ladder 2 with 1,912 runs.
There were 30 firefighters injured on duty.

12/19 New Engine for Engine Co. 5
Engine Co. 5 received a new 2017 Pierce Enforcer engine.
12/9 All Hands Job on Oak St
Firefighters fought an All Hands fire at 47 Oak Street. The fire was caused by a space heater on the first floor. Engines 9, 7, 12, 6, Tower Ladders 4, 2, Squad 3, Rescue 1, Battalion 2 and Deputy 4 operated at the scene.

The "Men of Steel" designed a new patch.
11/5 Mischief Night Suspects Caught
The Jakeland Police Dept. with assistance from the Washington County Sheriff Dept. and Prosecutors Office, arrested 6 men in connection with assaulting Jakeland Police Officers and Firefighters as well as destroying property. The "ring leader" of the group Manuel Sanchez AKA "Papa Smurf" (top left) is believed to have organized the attacks. The group has called themselves "SMURF's". Which stands for Socialist Men Under a Red Father. The other men have been identified as Dirk Henderson AKA "Doomsday" (top middle), John Arthur AKA "Money Man" (top right), Edward Norris AKA "Easy Eddie" (bottom left), Demetrius Morton AKA "Mighty Mo" (bottom middle) and Joseph Williams AKA "Dirty Joe" (bottom right). Sanchez and Williams are both from Newbrick. Henderson is from Jakeland. Arthur and Morton are from Riverwoods, and Norris is from Lego Twp. All 6 men have been processed with multiple charges which include assaulting police officers and firefighters and destruction of government property. Sanchez and Norris are charged with the assault of Engine 5's chauffeur on mischief night and burning Engine 5's truck. Williams and Henderson are charged with assaulting Engine 13's firefighters on Maple Ave with bricks, bottles and rocks.
10/30-31 Madness on Mischief Night in Jakeland
Three Jakeland FD Firefighters and two Jakeland Police Officers were injured at multiple incidents across the City of Jakeland on "Mischief Night". At 9:07 PM, Engine 7 was responding to a car fire on Central Ave. While responding, someone threw a object at Engine 7 which struck and damaged the windshield of the engine. Engine 7 was able to stay in service after being inspected. Engine 5 however, while operating at a report of a smell of gas on Downtown Blvd, a group of unknown suspects assaulted the chauffeur of Engine 5. After the assault knocked him unconscious, a molotov cocktail was thrown in the cab of Engine 5 which burst into flames. Two other firefighters from Engine 13 were injured when they had objects thrown at them from a roof from an apartment building on Maple Ave as they were entering the building to investigate the smell of smoke. This "Mischief Night" did not see the amount of fire that is typical in years past. However, this "Mischief Night" produced more Firefighter injuries than the last 10 "Mischief Nights" combined.
9/25 Fatal House Fire on Tenafly Dr
Jakeland's Bravest were dispatched to 46 Tenafly Dr for a working house fire with a trapped occupant on the second floor. Flames spread rapidly through the 2.5 story 2 family home. An occupant on the second floor was unable to escape and was killed. A second alarm assignment would be needed to extinguish the blaze.
7/4 Liberty County 4th of July Parade
Firefighters from Engine Co. 7 and Ladder Co. 7 participated in the annual Liberty County 4th of July Parade in Mattropolis. Other departments that participated were Liberty County FD, Lego Regional Fire Authority and the Rochelle Heights Volunteer Fire Dept. For more pictures and information, go to the FDLC Site.
6/23 Deli and Bakery Fire on Boston Blvd
The 4th Platoon of Jakelands Bravest battled a stubborn fire at 620 Boston Blvd in South Jakeland. The flames quickly spread to 622 Boston Blvd. The fire grew to a 4 Alarm assignment.
5/14 Early Mothers Day House Fire on Grove
Jakelands Bravest battled a house fire on Grove St at 12:07 AM. The fire was held to an All Hands assignment and was quickly declared under control at 12:48 AM.
