2013 IN REVIEW
In 2013, the Jakeland Fire Dept. responded to 39,955 runs. There were 209 working fires. Of the 209 working fires, 69 were structure fires. There were 31 held to an All Hands assignment. There were 21 2nd Alarm jobs. There were 14 3rd Alarm jobs. There were 2 4th Alarm jobs. And 1 6th Alarm job. The biggest fire in 2013 and in the history of the Jakeland FD was the 6 Alarm Dyson Chemical fire on March 23, 2013.
The busiest Engine in 2013 was Engine 9 with 2,597 runs.
The busiest Ladder in 2013 was Tower Ladder 2 with 1,988 runs.
There were 14 firefighters injured on duty.

SEPTEMBER 20
Squad 3 placed in service their new 2013 Pierce Arrow XT 75' PUC quint.
SEPTEMBER 13
Firefighters fought a gas fed fire at 224 Knickerbocker Rd. The home was struck by lightning which caused a gas line in the basement to explode. High winds then fueled the flames and two more homes west of the original fire building were quickly engulfed in flames. Two occupants of 224 Knickerbocker Rd were killed. Three alarms were needed to battle this blaze. Mutual aid from Lego Twp, Rochelle Hts, St Lego, Portage, West Brick, Buena Vista, Riverwoods, South Palm, Midlego and North Lereado County were needed to respond to the scene to assist and fill empty firehouses.
SEPTEMBER 7
The officers and firefighters of Squad Co. 3 designed a new company patch with help from Jersey Shore Fire & Police.
AUGUST 13
Jakelands Bravest fought a fierce house fire on Houston St. Two alarms were needed to battle the blaze. A vehicle fire in the attached garage of the home extended into the structure. Containers filled with gasoline and other flammable liquids that were stored in the garage, also ignited and several exploded. No one was injured at this fire.
AUGUST 6
Four of Jakelands Bravest were injured while battling a fire at Cosmo's Deli on Church St. The fire started in the deli and extended up to the apartments above. The four firefighters were injured when the flames flashed over and cut their escape down the stairs. A FAST team of firefighters were able to quickly rescue the four firemen. The firefighters were treated at Jakeland University Medical Center for burns but were released within a month. All four have returned to duty. Three alarms were needed to battle the blaze. Mutual aid from Lego Twp, Rochelle Hts, St Lego, Portage, South Palm, North Lereado County, Westbrick, Buena Vista and Midlego was needed to assist at the scene and fill empty firehouses.
AUGUST 5
Firefighters had to not only battle flames, but also the heat during a heat wave in North New Jersey. The fire was held to an All Hands assignment due to an aggressive attack made by Jakelands Bravest.
MAY 31/JUNE 10
Jakelands Bravest battled two house fires 12 days apart. The first fire (pictured left) occurred on May 31 on Jackson Ave. Two Alarms were needed to bring the flames under control. The second fire occurred on June 10 on Red Fox Ln. The Red Fox Ln job was held to an All Hands assignment.
MAY 26
Squad Co. 10 placed in service their new 2013 Pierce Quantum 75' PUC quint.
APRIL 16
Tower Ladder Co. 2 placed in service their new 2013 Pierce Dash CF 100' PUC Rear Mount Tower Ladder.
4/9/13 NEW TOWER LADDER 2 PATCH
The officers and firefighters of Tower Ladder Co. 2 redesigned a new company patch. The Graphics Dept. at Jersey Shore Fire & Police assisted Tower Ladder Co. 2 with the design.
MARCH 23
Jakelands Bravest fought the biggest fire in the history of the Jakeland Fire Dept. An explosion occurred at Dyson Chemical which caused the entire structure and attached warehouse to become engulfed in flames and burn for nearly 3 days. Mutual aid was needed from 20 mutual aid jurisdictions. A total of 25 engines, 18 ladders and 7 rescues were needed to battle the flames for 3 days.
MARCH 21
Firefighters from Engine 7 and Tower Ladder 4 assisted the Rochelle Heights Fire Dept. at a commercial building fire on the corner of Passaic St and Parkway. Firefighters also responded from Lego Regional Fire Authority, Portage, New Brickington, Midlego, Johnstown and East Heights.
MARCH 17
The Jakeland Fire Dept. participated in the 2013 North New Jersey St. Patricks Day Parade.
MARCH 15
A mutual aid agreement was reached between the Lego Regional Fire Authority and the Jakeland Fire Dept.
MARCH 8
Rescue Co. 1 placed in service a new 2012 Seagrave rescue to serve as Rescue 2. This was the last Seagrave to be delivered to Jakeland from the April 2012 order. The order included 3 engines for Engines 1, 9, 15, a tractor drawn ladder for Ladder 3, a rescue for Rescue 2 and 2 aerialscope tower ladders for Tower Ladders 1 and 4. This was the largest purchase of apparatus from a single manufacturer in the history of the Jakeland Fire Dept.
FEBRUARY 26
Engine Co. 4's famous 1983 Mack CF (which is pictured in their company patch) was placed back in service as a reserve engine. The Ex Chiefs of the J.L.F.D. Association held many fundraisers and donated the majority of funds needed to refurbish the old war wagon!
FEBRUARY 15
Engine Co. 15 placed in service their new 2012 Seagrave engine.
FEBRUARY 8
Firefighters were kept busy during Winter Storm Nemo. Multiple motor vehicle crashes, fire alarms, down power lines, etc. kept Jakelands Bravest out in the elements for most of the storm. Luckily no one was seriously injured or killed during the storm.
2/7/13 AID AGREEMENT WITH RIVERWOODS
The Fire Dept.s of Riverwoods and Jakeland agreed on a automatic aid agreement. From now on, all confirmed hi-rise fires and any other hi-rise incident in the City of Jakeland, Aerial Tower 55 from Riverwoods will be automatically dispatched to the scene. Aerial Tower 55 is a 1989 E-One equipped with a 135' ladder. It is the tallest ladder currently in service in the region.

2/1/13 NEW CHANGES FOR 30 YEARS OF SERVICE
A 30 Years of Service logo was released to honor the Jakeland Fire Dept. for their 30 years of service.
JANUARY 18
Firefighters fought a house fire on Sutton Ave. The fire was held to an All Hands assignment.
JANUARY 16
Engine 12 placed in service their "new" 2005 Pierce Arrow XT engine. The engine had seen service previously as Engine 9.
JANUARY 10
The officers and firefighters of Tower Ladder 4 designed a new company patch.
